Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Quick and Easy! This is a really quick snack with no prep time that you literally throw into a blender and serve. It doesn’t get easier than that!
Simple Ingredients. I love this pineapple smoothie recipe because it uses ingredients that I already have in my pantry or refrigerator. I use canned pineapple (or frozen fruit), and always grab a can or two when I go grocery shopping for just this reason!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Pineapple. You can use canned or fresh pineapple. If you use frozen pineapple chunks, leave the ice cubes out of the recipe. Frozen fruit will also help the smoothie have a thicker texture.
If you cut up your own fresh pineapple, choosing a ripe pineapple will make the smoothie sweeter.
Banana. This helps give it a sweet flavor and creamy texture. I use a small to medium banana.
The more ripe the banana is, the sweeter it will be. You can use fresh or frozen bananas, with frozen making a really nice creamy smoothie texture.
Milk. I like to use 2% milk to help keep the smoothie from being too thick. If you want a thicker texture, use less milk.
You can also use a non-dairy milk substitute like unsweetened almond milk, canned coconut milk, coconut water, or just water.
Vanilla Yogurt. I like to use vanilla greek yogurt to add flavor, and help thicken the texture of the smoothie. I don’t think plain yogurt tastes as good for smoothies.
If you use regular yogurt instead of greek yogurt, use slightly less milk and add as-needed until you have a texture that you like. I’ve also made this with plain kefir instead of yogurt.
If you’re non-dairy, you can use an alternative like almond milk yogurt, coconut yogurt, or cashew yogurt.
Vanilla. I like to add a small amount of vanilla extract for flavor.
Honey. This adds sweetness to the smoothie. You can also use maple syrup or a small amount of brown sugar.
Ice. This helps thicken the texture of the smoothie and makes it nice and cold.

- Add other mix-ins like ground flax seed, chia seeds, or vanilla protein powder.
- For some healthy fats and a creamier smoothie, try adding some avocado!
- Throw in a handful of fresh spinach for a pineapple green smoothie!
- Try adding other tropical fruits like frozen mango, papaya, or dragon fruit. Frozen mango will also help make it a creamier and thicker smoothie!
- Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder and a handful of fresh kale for a high protein green smoothie.
Recipe Tip! When your bananas are getting ripe, peel them and cut them into chunks. Then freeze them in a freezer-safe bag. You can add the frozen banana pieces directly to smoothies!
Frequently Asked Questions
Pineapple goes really well with other fruits like strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and coconuts. You can also add some chocolate protein powder for a chocolate pineapple smoothie! Or try a little bit of caramel for more of a dessert style smoothie. I also use fruit juices like pineapple juice, apple juice, or orange juice instead of milk if I want it even sweeter!
Yes, just leave the banana out entirely and add a little extra pineapple and yogurt. The banana adds to the texture of the smoothie, so add about half the milk, then adjust with more as-needed until you like the thickness.
Recipe Tip! If you want a thinner smoothie, use regular vanilla yogurt instead of greek yogurt. You can also add additional milk or water until you reach the desired texture.

Storage
Refrigerate leftover smoothie for 1-2 days in an air-tight container. You may have to shake the smoothie if it sits in the refrigerator, some separation is normal. It’s perfect for a quick breakfast the next morning!
Freeze this smoothie in an ice cube tray covered in plastic wrap for 2-3 months, and blend with milk when you want a frozen smoothie anytime!
Cooking Tips
- If you don’t have a high-powered blender, pulse a few times before blending, to make sure everything is blended smoothly and nothing gets stuck to the bottom.
- Greek yogurt will help keep the texture thicker and more creamy, but you can use regular yogurt for a thinner smoothie.
- I use canned pineapple in 100% juice. The pineapple juice adds sweetness and pineapple flavor to the smoothie without a ton of sugar.
