Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Quick & Easy – Ready in 5 minutes with simple ingredients you probably already have on hand.

Like a Creamsicle – This blend of fresh oranges and vanilla yogurt tastes like a more wholesome version of orange creamsicle!

Creamy Texture – It’s thick, creamy, and smooth—like dessert, but in smoothie form!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Individual ingredients for orange smoothie on a table.

Oranges. I usually use two regular oranges, or 3-4 mandarin oranges (I use cuties because they’re seedless). If you use a regular orange, make sure to remove the seeds before adding the orange slices to the blender!

Banana. You can use regular or frozen bananas. If you have ripe bananas, peel them, cut them into pieces, and freeze them to use in smoothies! The frozen bananas will give a more dessert-like texture.

Greek Yogurt. I like to use greek vanilla yogurt, because it helps give the smoothie a thicker texture and a nice flavor. You can use plain greek yogurt but it won’t be as sweet.

Milk. I like to use 2% milk, but you can use regular or your favorite choice of milk, like vanilla almond milk, coconut water, or canned coconut milk.

You can also use orange juice instead of milk.

Vanilla Extract. Adding a little extra vanilla helps achieve that creamsicle flavor!

Honey. I like to add a touch more sweetness with a little bit of honey. You can also use maple syrup.

Ice. This helps thicken the texture and makes the smoothie nice and cold.

Recipe Variations

  • Add pineapple chunks, frozen mango, and canned coconut milk, and top with shredded coconut flakes for a tropical smoothie!
  • Add strawberries, raspberries, or frozen mixed berries for a berry smoothie or a fruity twist.
  • If you’re serving this to guests, add a little orange zest on top.
  • Add a handful of spinach for a green smoothie.
  • Add some chocolate protein powder for a chocolate orange smoothie, or vanilla protein powder for a protein creamsicle!
  • Instead of ice, try freezing some orange juice in an ice cube tray the night before and using that instead! It will make the orange flavor stronger, and won’t water down the smoothie like ice.
  • Make this smoothie vegan by adding non-dairy yogurt and orange juice instead of milk.

Recipe Tip! If you’re using regular oranges, peel them first and remove the white pith and seeds ahead of time. The white parts are more bitter, so the less the better!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make a smoothie ahead of time?

You can blend this the night before and refrigerate, then shake it in the morning. Or, portion all of the ingredients (except for the milk and honey) into freezer-safe bags and freeze them. Just empty the bag into the blender, add some milk and honey, and blend! With this method, you can prep multiple smoothies at once for the whole week!

Recipe Tip! For a thicker smoothie, add less milk upfront and blend, then test the texture. You can add more milk as-needed until you get to a texture you like, for the perfect smoothie every time!

Storage

Refrigerate leftover smoothie for 1-2 days in an airtight container. You may have to shake the smoothie if it sits in the refrigerator, some separation is normal.

Cooking Tips

  • There are seedless varieties of mandarin oranges that work well for this smoothie, so you don’t have to remove any seeds before blending (just the skin!)
  • You may have to pulse the blender a few times to get everything to blend smoothly, unless you’re using a high speed blender.
  • Fruit can be more or less sweet depending on the season, you can add a little more honey if needed for a sweeter smoothie.
