Ingredients You’ll Need

Individual ingredients for air fryer green beans on a table.

Green Beans. You want to use fresh trimmed green beans for this recipe. I buy them in the produce section already trimmed and ready to go.

You can also use frozen green beans, but check them when 10 minutes is up to see if you need to increase the cook time.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This helps to make sure the green beans are coated evenly with the spices. You could also use avocado oil or canola oil.

Spices. I keep this really simple, with just some onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper.

Kitchen Tools

For this recipe, you’ll need an air fryer.

How to Make Air Fryer Green Beans

  2. Cook the green beans.

Add the green beans to the preheated air fryer for 10 minutes. Half way through (at 5 minutes), take the air fryer basket out and quickly shake it, before putting it back in to finish air frying. An air fryer basket with green beans tossed in olive oil and spices, before being cooked.

  3. Add time as-needed and serve.

Check the green beans at 10 minutes, and add a couple of minutes to the cook time as-needed if you want the green beans to be more caramelized. If you want your green beans crispy, do this in two batches instead of one.An air fryer basket with green beans air fried with olive oil and spices.

Recipe Variations

  • Make this spicy with a dash of hot sauce, cayenne pepper, or red pepper flakes.
  • Try adding a few tablespoons of parmesan cheese as soon as the green beans come out of the air fryer.
  • Try adding a splash of fresh lemon juice or some lemon zest for a bright flavor.

Recipe Tip! Don’t skip shaking the air fryer basket half way through! This helps to make sure the air circulates properly around the green beans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make air fried green beans crispy?

If you want to make these green beans crispy, there are two ways to do this. First, you can work in batches and add less green beans at a time to the basket so they’re in a single layer. The second way is to increase the cook time by a few minutes.

I like to cook my green beans until crisp-tender, so they’re still soft but not mushy. If you like more of a crunch, you need more time in the heat. Also, make sure the air fryer basket is not over-full, and you can still toss them easily half way through the cook time.

Cooking Tips

  • Tossing the green beans halfway through the cooking time is important, don’t skip this step!
  • You may need to cook in batches, depending on how big your air fryer is.
  • Check your green beans to see if they have the stem left on them. You should be able to trim them by snapping the stem off or using scissors to cut the stem off.
  • If you rinse the green beans, dry them completely with paper towels before tossing with the oil to make sure the seasoning sticks.
