Chocolate Chip Mocha Breakfast Smoothie
Creamy vanilla greek yogurt, sweet chocolate chips, and ice combined with bold coffee to create the perfect Chocolate Chip Mocha Breakfast Smoothie. It’s healthy protein and sweet, sweet caffeine rolled all into one tasty morning treat.ย This is seriously theย easiestย breakfast you’ll make all week!
We’re almost a week into 2016! Hooray, we made it!
Are you back to your old routine yet? No? Good, me either. I spent a little too much vacation time staying up until the wee hours of the morning and sleeping in. Needless to stay, getting up for work is just not happening this week. Or, it is happening, but very much against my will.ย ย
That’s where breakfast-on-the-go comes in! That’s right, I’m trading my cooking time for a few extra winks of sleep this week. With this Chocolate Chip Mocha Breakfast Smoothie, you’ll have a smooth, creamy, and totally caffeinated (unless you like decaf, that’s cool, too)ย breakfast to take with you as you’re walking out the door!
If chocolate on top of more chocolate on top of a mountain of whipped cream doesn’t do it for your sweet tooth (because it’s almost Friday, right? Let’s get a little crazy),ย you could also add a banana in here. Here’s the thing about the banana. I actually made another version of this very same smoothie with the addition of a lovely banana. I liked the flavor a lot, while Drew didn’t like it at all. So, I agreed to leave it out.
But I never said I wouldn’t tell you about it!
So, if you’d like, go ahead and banana your little heart out on this breakfast smoothie. Fruit is good with breakfast anyway, right?

How to Make A Chocolate Chip Mocha Breakfast Smoothie
(This is seriously easy, you’re going to love it.)
First, pour your 1 1/2 cups ice into a blender.
Next, add 1/4 cup chocolate chips.
Then throw in 5 oz vanilla greek yogurt (about one of those little single-serving cups).
Then add 4 tbsp chocolate syrup.
Or so, I won’t judge…ย
Then 3/4 cups of cool, bold-brewed coffee.
This is a great way to use up the coffee leftover in the pot, just refrigerate until the next morning!ย
Then, blend away until smooth!
Pour that beautiful breakfast smoothing into a big ole’ glass.
Now it’s getting good!
And as much chocolate syrup as you can stand!
Drink up!

I love this idea, and I happen to have espresso chips on hand instead of chocolate; I’m trying it now!
Thank you! This would be awesome with espresso chips. I might balance it with a little bit of sugar or extra chocolate since the chips might add a little bitterness. Unless they’re the chocolate coated kind. Let me know how it goes! ๐
Love the recipe, but I’m allergic to yogurt. Is there something else I could substitute instead?
Hi Morgan, is it a dairy allergy? I know there’s some great non-dairy yogurts out there. I’d also try using silken tofu (the silken one has a yogurt-like consistency), a bit more sugar and some vanilla extract. Let me know what you do! ๐
Can we just dump in an instant pack of coffee? I don’t drink nor do I know how to make if.
You can use instant coffee, but I’d make it according to directions, then use the coffee ๐
How many calories are in this smoothie?
Myfitnesspal.com finds 661 calories in this smoothie. Yikes.
Hi Misty, If you’re watching your calories, you can easily cut them down by using fat free yogurt and light or sugar free syrup. That should cut it down by over 200 calories ๐
You can also use sugar free or lite redi whip?. I can’t wait to try it.
Absolutely! ๐
Hi Allison, I usually don’t provide nutritional information. I would suggest plugging it into a tracker like myfitnesspal. This recipe is a treat, but if you need to cut it down I’d recommend a sugar free (or low cal) chocolate syrup and fat free yogurt ๐
I believe I would brew the coffee ahead of time and freeze in an ice cube tray so the smoothie doesn’t water down as the ice melts.
Great idea!
Wow, wow , wow. Yes please! That looks absolutely delicious!!
I made this today but I changed it just a bit. I like to add ground oats into my smoothies so they last longer on the hunger scale. I used 1/4 oats, 1/4 plain while Greek yogurt, 2 tbsp semisweet mini chocolate chips, 2 tbsp lite chocolate syrup, 3 stevia packets since my yogurt was plain, ice & a small dollop of whip. MyFitnessPal clocked it at 338 calories. I love the ease of smoothies for breakfast & I love coffee so this is perfect!!
Oh those changes sound awesome! I’m counting calories now so I’m definitely going to try it that way. Thanks, and I’m glad you liked it! ๐
Can you add protein power to this recipe?
Yes I’d throw in a scoop, just add more liquid if it’s a little too thick.
