This is one of my favorite dip recipes for the holiday season. We serve this for Christmas as a holiday party appetizer because it takes almost no prep time. This is a cold shrimp dip that comes together really fast, made with cream cheese, mayo, sour cream, herbs, and fresh salad shrimp.

You can serve it with gluten free crackers, cut up bell peppers, tortilla chips, or gluten free baguette slices. It’ll be your new favorite appetizer recipe, and a go-to for any family gathering!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients for cream cheese shrimp dip on a marble table.

Cream Cheese. Cream cheese adds a thicker texture, but also stays creamy. You can also use Neufchatel cheese.

Make sure your cream cheese is room temperature when you start, or it will be lumpy. Just leave the block of cream cheese on the counter for 20-30 minutes before starting.

Refrigerate the dip again before serving, because you don’t want to leave cream cheese out for too long at room temperature.ย

Mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is for flavor and a creamy texture.

Sour Cream. Sour cream is also for flavor and a creamy texture, and a little bit of sourness to balance the other flavors.

Shrimp. I buy a bag of fully cooked small frozen shrimp without the tails. You can also buy fresh shrimp and cook them yourself before adding them to the cream cheese mixture.

If you’re cooking raw shrimp, add it with the onions to get more flavor. You can also use fully cooked canned shrimp.

This recipe calls for mini shrimp, but you could also use larger shrimp and cut them into smaller pieces. I like to save a few pieces of shrimp for garnish.

Vidalia onion. I like Vidalia onions because they’re on the sweeter side. You can also use yellow or white onions.

Green onion. This adds a nice flavor and little pieces of color to the dip.

Celery. Celery can be sautรฉed, or added raw for flavor and a nice crunch.

Fresh dill. This adds a great fresh flavor to the dip. You can also use fresh parsley.

Worcestershire sauce. This is added for flavor. Make sure you get a gluten free brand, because this sauce can be found either way.

Spices and Garlic. I had fresh garlic from another recipe, but you can add 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder if that’s what you have. I also add salt and black pepper to taste.

Cooking Tips

  • Add a few teaspoons of hot sauce, tabasco sauce, or cayenne pepper to add some heat to this recipe. You can also have a bottle of hot sauce or spicy cocktail sauce on the side so people can add some as they serve it.ย
  • You can also add some other veggies, like green peppers, cucumber, or cherry tomato, to the shrimp mixture.ย
  • Add a tablespoon of lemon juice for extra flavor.ย
  • Pulse the onions, green onions, and celery in the food processor to cut down on time. The food processor will puree them if done too quickly, so use the pulse button.ย
  • Make sure the shrimp is fully cooked before adding to the salad. If you don’t have fresh shrimp meat, fully cooked frozen shrimp or canned shrimp will work.ย
